Artesunate for cancer treatment

Reno Integrative Medical Center is now offering Artesunate for cancer treatment.  It is part of an overall protocol of non-toxic treatments that work synergistically together to produce powerful therapeutic results.

How does Artesunate for cancer treatment work?

Artesunate is derived from the wormwood plant. Another name for Artesunate Is Artimisinin or Artemesia.  It has been used in China since ancient times to treat malaria and intestinal parasites.

Some new exciting studies at the University of Washington have indicated that artesunate for cancer treatment could selectively kill cancer cells while leaving normal cells unharmed.

Artesunate is a chemical compound that reacts with iron to form free radicals which can kill cells.  Cancer cells require and uptake a large amount of iron to proliferate.  They are more susceptible to the cytotoxic effects of artesunate than normal cells.

By itself, artesunate is about 100 times more selective in killing cancer cells as opposed to normal cells.  The new research has shown that combining it with iron makes it 34,000 times more potent in killing the cancer cells!

Because they multiply so rapidly, most cancer cells need more iron than normal cells to replicate DNA.  To facilitate that, cancer cells have inlets on their surface, known as transferrin (protein bound iron) receptors in greater numbers than normal cells. Those receptors allow quick transport of the compound into the cells.

Once inside the cell, the artesunate reacts with the iron, spawning highly reactive chemicals called “free radicals”.  The free radicals attack other molecules and the cell membrane, breaking it apart and killing the cell.

We now offer IV  Artesunate and oral Artemisinin in combination with iron as part of our treatment protocol to fight cancer.
