PROSTATE CANCER PROGNOSIS
From an Integrative Medicine Perspective
Prostate cancer prognosis has changed dramatically in the past few years. Prognosis is a medical term for predicting the likely outcome of one’s current diagnosis.
It used to be, in many cases, the treatment was worse than the disease. That no longer needs to be the case with alternative cancer treatment. In fact, for some patients, no treatment at all is recommended.
No Two Cancers Are Alike
No two cancers are alike. Depending on the age of the patient and the type of prostate cancer(most are very slow growing) and the stage it is found at, the latest studiesindicate the patient is more likely to die with the cancer than from the cancer and it is estimated that many people have been over treated.
A “Gleason score”is determined by the appearance of the types of cells found in the cancer when it is biopsied. The higher the Gleasonscore, the more aggressive the cancer is. The more aggressive it is, the more it needs to be treated.
Conventional treatment, for a long time, has been surgery (removal of the prostate gland by anumber of different techniques) followed by radiation.
Chemotherapy has also been used if the cancerhas spread and the stage is more advanced. Common “extra” effects of these therapies have included incontinence(loss of bladder control), impotence (loss of ability to function sexually),severe fatigue, loss of hair and decrease in immune function.
Prostate Cancer Prognosis and Integrative Treatment
At Reno Integrative Medical Center we consider it essential to maintain and improve the strength and balance of theimmune system if a patient is ever going to eliminate the cancer.
The therapies we use not only increase the strength of the immune system but have very specific ways of helping it then“decloak” and destroy the abnormal cancer cells.
Our therapiesinclude IPT (intelligent use of chemo drugs),UBI (recognized by the FDA), GcMAF (Macrophage ActivatingFactor), TCRP (T-cell rich plasma), a type of dendritic cell vaccine therapy and Salicinium (A false sugar used to starve cancer cells).
Cancer Boot Camp
For those that need to enter treatment sooner than later, we have our signature program designed to treat patients for 2, 3 or weeks. We encourage you to read further. Cancer Boot Camp
A Patient’s Story
A patient from Idaho, with a prostate cancer prognosis, came to us a year ago with Stage 4 prostate cancer that had spread to the bone. He had been sent home to die by his Oncologist and could barely get out of bed.
He entered our program because, as he told his doctor at home, “I’ve got nothing to lose”. He did so well, he spent this past summer building a barn at home…by himself! A recent bone scan and cancer marker blood tests have shown him to be cancer free!
Our goal is to end up with a healthy patient at the end of treatment, not just the elimination of a tumor.
Just as no two cancers are alike, no two patients are alike. For that reason, prognosis (educated guess) does not carry a lot of weight for us.
For those that live far away and would like to speak with Dr. Eslinger. We offer a one hour medical records evaluation phone consult. This is a good first step for many that want this level of contact before deciding to make a trip to Reno for their initial appointment with Dr. Eslinger.
