Vitamin D Can help Us All
What is the importance of Vitamin D
An article released on March 23, 2020 identified the ability of several plant bioactive compounds and supplements to inhibit the COVID-19 main “protease”, which is necessary for viral replication and prevent the over-reactive inflammatory response of the immune system to the virus.
One of the most important of these compounds is Vitamin D. Most people are aware of the connection between Vitamin D and calcium in keeping bones strong.
However, many people are unaware of how important adequate vitamin D levels are to a strong immune system.
Activated vitamin D,1,25(OH) is a steroid hormone that is an immune system modulator that activates macrophage cells and stimulates anti-microbial peptides which exist in neutrophils, monocytes, natural killer cells and epithelial cells of the respiratory tract.
In addition to these effects, it reduces the expression of inflammatory cytokines that are at the root of the “cytokine storm” in the lungs that is how people die from COVID.
We normally can make vitamin D in our bodies by adequate exposure of the skin to sunlight. But it is estimated that if someone lives above the 35th parallel (Northern Countries), everyone is vitamin D deficient from inadequate exposure to the sun, especially in the winter. So, supplementation is necessary.
Cancer Patient Appointment Policy:
We have found that the initial appointment with Dr. Eslinger being a Telephone Medical Records Evaluation instead of an initial in-person appointment has been the most beneficial for our new cancer patients for many reasons such as:
easing time and cost restraints,
the ability for the prospective patient to meet and speak with our Doctor about their diagnosis,
the ability to discuss your current state of health and the treatments we offer,
allows your loved ones and/or patient advocates to be with you during this phone call,
help to gather information towards a decision on whether this is the best treatment plan for you,
Medical Records Evaluation, 1 hour phone call for $250.00.
In order to get the most out of your Medical Records Evaluation phone call and to give our Doctor enough time we must receive your medical records no later than 5 business days before your scheduled appointment. We also ask that you send only recent scans, current blood tests and the original pathology report (within the last 3 months). Please send via email or fax – no CD’s will be accepted. Keep in mind that if your records are not received timely your appointment may need to be rescheduled.
Dr. Eslinger will review your records and discuss treatment options. The information gathered will help in the decision making process. Our liaison staff will be in contact after the Medical Records Evaluation to go over costs and scheduling.
